Congratulations and Inebriations
Last night I played poker and drank many beers.
I usually don't drink a lot when I play cards, because I like to keep my wits about me, especially if there is a lot of money on the table. But last night's game was a friendly affair, so I decided to relax my play and have a few pops. A few turned into a few more, and before long I had a pretty good heat going.
Anyway, I came home extremely buzzed (and a little richer, by the way), and before sacking out, logged onto the Internet to see what was going on. I opened an email message to discover that my friend, Rebecca Watson, had been named one of the winners of the Public Radio Talent Quest. As one of three winners, she receives 10 grand, and has the opportunity to produce a pilot program that will be considered for a regular show on Public Radio.
If I hadn't been tipsy, I would have simply turned off my computer and gone to bed. But I was tipsy, so I pulled an after-party classic and drunk dialed Rebecca to congratulate her.
What is it about alcohol that makes us think drunk dialing is either A) completely acceptable behavior, or B) gut-busting hilarious?
Who knows?
The short of it is, Rebeccas didn't answer her phone. It was almost 3am in Boston when I called, so she was either in bed, out celebrating, or ignoring any dumb asses that might be drunk dialing.
Oh well.
At any rate, after a night of sleep and quite a rude sobering up process, I just want to apologize for the drunk dial, congratulate Rebecca, and wish her the best on producing her radio show pilot.
Way to go!!

You so don't need to apologize. I was still awake and partying at a public radio convention in Minneapolis, but had left my phone in someone's bed.
Yeah, it was a good time. I have to listen to the message again, but I'm pretty sure I remember it as being awesome.
