Watson on to Round Two
Hey folks, here's some exciting news:
My very good friend and erstwhile rinderpest.com blogger, Rebecca Watson, has made it to the finals of a win-your-own-radio-show-on-NPR contest.
The contest, which is sort of like American Idol for radio hosts, is down to only ten contestants, all of whom submitted a two minute recorded "audition" to the Public Radio Talent Quest website along with 1500 other hopefuls. The ten finalists were selected by a group of judges and by the votes of regular Joes like you and me.
You can see Rebecca's profile and listen to her audition here.
Rebecca, being a skeptic and director of the Skepchick.org website devoted to promoting skepticism and science as it relates to women, says her show, if she wins, will be chock full of sciency goodness, and literally sloppy over with interesting topics, brilliant guests, and possibly drink specials. Curiosity drives her, much like the search for a decent knish drives me, so you can bet her program will be unique, informative, and unlike anything else on radio. She can't work blue on NPR, which is her preference, but she can work drunk, which is her passion.
In all seriousness, this is an opportunity for us to play a huge part in putting quality ideas and a measure of intelligence into public discourse. So keep an eye out for the next round of voting, and cast your vote. Let's help this lovely young lady get a job in radio. And maybe she'll pay me the money she owes me.
